15 Days Around Sri Lanka: A Memorable Family Journey from Negombo to Galle

Exploring Sri Lanka with Mrs. Serina and Her Sons from the USA

Some of the most meaningful journeys are the ones shared with family. Recently, we had the pleasure of completing a 15-day round tour with Mrs. Serina and her sons from the United States, travelling through some of Sri Lanka’s most beautiful and fascinating destinations.

From ancient kingdoms and cultural landmarks to misty mountains, tea plantations, surfing beaches and the historic southern coast, their journey offered a wonderful introduction to the many sides of Sri Lanka.

The route covered Negombo, Dambulla, Sigiriya, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Ella, Arugam Bay and Galle.

Starting the Adventure in Negombo

The journey began in Negombo, a lively coastal destination located close to Sri Lanka’s international airport.

With its beautiful beach, fishing traditions and relaxed atmosphere, Negombo was a perfect place for the family to settle into their Sri Lankan adventure.

From the coast, we then headed inland towards the cultural heart of the island.

Discovering Dambulla’s Ancient Heritage

Our next stop was Dambulla, home to the famous Dambulla Cave Temple.

The temple complex, surrounded by beautiful natural scenery, is renowned for its ancient Buddhist murals and impressive collection of statues.

For Mrs. Serina and her sons, visiting Dambulla provided an opportunity to experience the spiritual and artistic heritage that has shaped Sri Lanka for centuries.

The Magnificent Sigiriya

From Dambulla, the journey continued to Sigiriya, one of the country’s most iconic attractions.

The spectacular Sigiriya Rock Fortress rises dramatically above the surrounding greenery and offers an unforgettable combination of history, architecture and natural beauty.

Exploring the ancient fortress and its surroundings was one of the highlights of the family’s journey through Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle.

Experiencing the Culture of Kandy

Next, we travelled to Kandy, nestled among the green hills of central Sri Lanka.

Kandy is famous for its cultural heritage, beautiful surroundings and the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, one of the country’s most important religious landmarks.

The city offered the family a chance to experience a different side of Sri Lanka, surrounded by mountains, forests and traditional culture.

Into the Cool Mountains of Nuwara Eliya

Leaving Kandy behind, we continued into the central highlands towards Nuwara Eliya.

The scenery changed dramatically as we climbed into the mountains. Green tea plantations stretched across the hills, while waterfalls and misty valleys created some of the most beautiful landscapes of the journey.

Known for its cool climate and colonial charm, Nuwara Eliya offered a refreshing change from Sri Lanka’s tropical lowlands.

Exploring Ella

From Nuwara Eliya, we travelled towards Ella, one of Sri Lanka’s most scenic mountain destinations.

Surrounded by dramatic peaks, tea plantations and lush forests, Ella is a place where visitors can enjoy the natural beauty of the island at its best.

For Mrs. Serina and her sons, the journey through the hill country was filled with beautiful views and memorable family moments.

From the Hills to Arugam Bay

The adventure continued as we travelled from the mountains towards Sri Lanka’s eastern coast and Arugam Bay.

Known around the world for its surfing culture, beautiful coastline and relaxed atmosphere, Arugam Bay provided a completely different experience.

After exploring ancient cities and mountain landscapes, the family could enjoy the warm coastal environment and laid-back beach lifestyle.

Finishing the Journey in Historic Galle

The final destination of this 15-day round tour was Galle, on Sri Lanka’s southern coast.

The city is famous for the historic Galle Fort, a remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Site surrounded by the Indian Ocean.

Walking through the fort’s old streets, colonial buildings, cafés and historic walls offered a beautiful way to finish the family’s Sri Lankan adventure.

15 Days, Countless Memories
