Exploring Sri Lanka: An Ongoing Round Tour with Mrs. Sunny and Her Partner
From Ancient Heritage to Tropical Beaches — A Journey Across Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is a destination where history, wildlife, mountains and beaches come together within one beautiful island. Every region has its own character, and a round tour is one of the best ways to experience that incredible diversity.
We are currently enjoying an ongoing round tour with Mrs. Sunny and her partner from Slovenia, travelling through some of Sri Lanka’s most remarkable destinations.
Their journey covers Dambulla, Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa, Wilpattu, Trincomalee, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Ella and Mirissa, creating a fantastic combination of culture, wildlife, mountains and coastal experiences.

Discovering the Heritage of Dambulla
The journey began in Dambulla, one of Sri Lanka’s most important cultural destinations.
The famous Dambulla Cave Temple, with its ancient Buddhist murals and impressive collection of statues, provides a fascinating introduction to the island’s religious and artistic heritage.
It was the perfect beginning to a journey filled with history and discovery.
The Magnificent Sigiriya
From Dambulla, the journey continued to Sigiriya, home to the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress.
Rising dramatically above the surrounding forests, Sigiriya is one of Sri Lanka’s most recognisable landmarks.
The ancient gardens, archaeological remains and spectacular natural setting make Sigiriya a highlight for travellers from around the world.
For Mrs. Sunny and her partner, it was an opportunity to experience one of the true treasures of Sri Lanka.
Stepping Back in Time in Polonnaruwa
Next, the tour continued to Polonnaruwa, one of Sri Lanka’s ancient capitals.
The historic ruins, temples, stone sculptures and ancient structures provide an incredible insight into the island’s royal past.
Exploring Polonnaruwa added another fascinating chapter to their journey through Sri Lanka’s cultural heartland.
Wildlife Adventure in Wilpattu
After exploring ancient cities, the journey moved into the wild landscapes of Wilpattu National Park.
Famous for its natural lakes, forests and diverse wildlife, Wilpattu offers visitors a chance to experience Sri Lanka’s wilderness in a truly immersive setting.
A wildlife safari here adds an exciting element to the journey, with opportunities to spot elephants, deer, birds and, with some luck, the elusive Sri Lankan leopard.
Relaxing on the East Coast in Trincomalee
From the wilderness of Wilpattu, the journey continued towards the beautiful eastern coast and Trincomalee.
Known for its stunning beaches, turquoise waters and fascinating cultural heritage, Trincomalee offers a wonderful combination of relaxation and exploration.
The coastal scenery provided a refreshing change after the ancient cities and wildlife experiences earlier in the journey.
Experiencing the Cultural Heart of Kandy
The next stage took Mrs. Sunny and her partner into the central hills towards Kandy.
Surrounded by green mountains, Kandy is one of Sri Lanka’s most culturally significant cities and is home to the famous Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.
The city’s historic atmosphere, beautiful surroundings and cultural traditions make it an essential stop on a journey through Sri Lanka.
Into the Misty Highlands of Nuwara Eliya
From Kandy, the road climbed higher into the mountains towards Nuwara Eliya.
The landscape transformed once again, with cool temperatures, misty mountains, cascading waterfalls and endless green tea plantations.
Known for its colonial charm and tea-growing heritage, Nuwara Eliya is one of the most scenic destinations in Sri Lanka’s hill country.
Discovering the Beauty of Ella
The journey continued through the spectacular highlands to Ella, surrounded by dramatic mountains, forests and tea estates.
Ella is famous for its relaxed atmosphere and breathtaking scenery, making it an ideal place to enjoy the natural beauty of Sri Lanka.
The journey through the hill country itself becomes part of the experience, with spectacular views around almost every corner.
Ending by the Ocean in Mirissa
The latest destination on this ongoing adventure is Mirissa, where the mountains give way to the tropical southern coastline.
With its golden beaches, palm trees and relaxed atmosphere, Mirissa is a wonderful place to slow down and enjoy Sri Lanka’s coastal beauty.
After travelling through ancient cities, wildlife parks and misty mountains, the southern coast provides the perfect opportunity to relax and enjoy the ocean.

One Journey, So Many Experiences
The route taken by Mrs. Sunny and her partner showcases just how diverse Sri Lanka can be:
Dambulla → Sigiriya → Polonnaruwa → Wilpattu → Trincomalee → Kandy → Nuwara Eliya → Ella → Mirissa
From ancient temples and royal cities to wildlife safaris, tropical beaches and mist-covered mountains, their ongoing journey brings together some of the very best experiences the island has to offer.
At Sri Lanka Dream Tour, we believe the best journeys are about discovering the country at your own pace, experiencing its different landscapes and creating memories along the way.
We are delighted to be travelling with Mrs. Sunny and her partner from Slovenia and look forward to the remaining chapters of their Sri Lankan adventure.
