15 Days Around Sri Lanka: A Journey from Dambulla to Galle
An Unforgettable Sri Lankan Adventure with Mrs. Aoibhinn and Her Partner
Sri Lanka is an island of incredible contrasts. Within a single journey, travellers can experience ancient kingdoms, cultural landmarks, misty mountains, tea plantations, wildlife-filled national parks and beautiful southern beaches.
We have recently started a 15-day round tour with Mrs. Aoibhinn and her partner from the UK, taking them across some of the island’s most fascinating destinations.
Their ongoing journey covers Dambulla, Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Ella, Udawalawe, Hiriketiya and Galle, bringing together the very best of Sri Lanka’s cultural, natural and coastal experiences.

Exploring the Cultural Heritage of Dambulla
The journey began in Dambulla, one of Sri Lanka’s most important cultural destinations.
The famous Dambulla Cave Temple is renowned for its ancient Buddhist murals and impressive collection of statues. Surrounded by beautiful scenery, the temple provides a fascinating introduction to Sri Lanka’s rich spiritual and artistic heritage.
Discovering the Iconic Sigiriya
From Dambulla, the journey continued to Sigiriya, home to the legendary Sigiriya Rock Fortress.
Rising dramatically above the surrounding forests, Sigiriya is one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic landmarks. Its ancient gardens, archaeological remains and spectacular views make it a highlight of any journey through the island.
For Aoibhinn and her partner, exploring Sigiriya was a chance to step into one of the most remarkable chapters of Sri Lankan history.
Walking Through Ancient Polonnaruwa
The next stop was Polonnaruwa, one of Sri Lanka’s ancient royal capitals.
The impressive ruins, temples, statues and historic structures reveal the achievements of an advanced civilisation that flourished centuries ago.
Exploring Polonnaruwa added another fascinating layer to the couple’s cultural journey through Sri Lanka.
Experiencing the Charm of Kandy
From the ancient cities, the journey continued towards Kandy, nestled among the green hills of central Sri Lanka.
Kandy is famous for its cultural heritage and is home to the revered Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.
The city’s surrounding mountains, peaceful lake and traditional atmosphere offer a completely different experience from Sri Lanka’s ancient northern regions.
Into the Tea Country of Nuwara Eliya
Leaving Kandy, the journey climbed into the cool central highlands towards Nuwara Eliya.
The scenery transformed dramatically, with rolling tea plantations, mist-covered mountains, waterfalls and winding roads.
Known for its cool climate and colonial character, Nuwara Eliya is one of the most beautiful places to experience Sri Lanka’s hill country.

Discovering Ella
From Nuwara Eliya, the journey continued to Ella, surrounded by lush mountains and tea country.
Ella is known for its spectacular scenery, relaxed atmosphere and beautiful natural surroundings.
The journey through the hills itself becomes part of the adventure, with breathtaking views appearing throughout the route.
Wildlife Adventure in Udawalawe
From the mountains, Aoibhinn and her partner travelled towards Udawalawe, one of Sri Lanka’s best-known wildlife destinations.
A safari in the Udawalawe region provides an exciting opportunity to experience Sri Lanka’s wildlife in its natural surroundings, with elephants being one of the area’s most famous attractions.
After days of exploring mountains and cultural sites, the wildlife experience added a thrilling new dimension to their journey.
Relaxing in Hiriketiya
The adventure then moved towards the southern coast and the laid-back beach destination of Hiriketiya.
Known for its beautiful bay, tropical surroundings and relaxed atmosphere, Hiriketiya is an ideal place to slow down and enjoy Sri Lanka’s coastal lifestyle.
After travelling through the island’s cultural and mountainous regions, the southern coast offered a welcome change of pace.
Finishing the Journey in Galle
The final destination of this 15-day round tour is Galle, one of Sri Lanka’s most historically fascinating coastal cities.
The iconic Galle Fort, with its historic walls, colonial architecture, charming streets and ocean views, provides a wonderful way to experience the island’s colonial heritage and southern coastal culture.
One Journey Across the Many Faces of Sri Lanka
Aoibhinn and her partner’s 15-day route showcases the incredible diversity of the island:
Dambulla → Sigiriya → Polonnaruwa → Kandy → Nuwara Eliya → Ella → Udawalawe → Hiriketiya → Galle
From ancient temples and royal cities to tea-covered mountains, wildlife safaris and tropical beaches, this journey brings together many of the experiences that make Sri Lanka such a special destination.
At Sri Lanka Dream Tour, we believe every journey should be more than a list of places visited. It should be a collection of experiences, discoveries and memories that travellers can take home with them.
We are delighted to be travelling with Mrs. Aoibhinn and her partner from the UK and look forward to experiencing the remaining moments of their Sri Lankan adventure together.
